Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming workplaces across the world, but courts are increasingly holding that employers cannot lawfully dismiss workers solely because AI can perform their jobs. Recent decisions from China, Europe, India, the UK, and emerging African jurisprudence show a growing legal consensus that AI-driven dismissals must still satisfy traditional labour law standards, including procedural fairness, genuine operational necessity, and efforts to retrain or redeploy employees.
